Exclusive Saghro Trek – A Private Journey Through Morocco’s Wild South

We depart Marrakech early in the morning for a scenic 300 km drive across the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of remote Berber villages and dramatic mountain landscapes before reaching Ouarzazate, the gateway to the south.
After continuing toward the Saghro massif, we meet our mule team and trekking crew. Once the mules are loaded, we begin a short introductory walk to our first overnight stop. Dinner and accommodation are provided in a traditional Berber guesthouse (gîte), offering a warm welcome and insight into local life.

After breakfast, we start our trek with a gentle and enjoyable walking day of around 5 hours, ideal for acclimatization. The trail leads through arid volcanic landscapes contrasted by lush palm groves.
We pass through the beautiful oasis of Tifdassine (1,210 m), where date palms and small cultivated fields bring life to the valley. Continuing along ancient paths used by nomads, we reach our camp near Irhazzoune n’Imlass, set in a peaceful and remote environment. Dinner and overnight in tents under the stars.

Today’s walk follows the impressive Amguis Valley, known for its striking rock formations and traditional villages clinging to the mountainsides. We pass through the village of Amguis (1,400 m), where you may encounter local families going about their daily routines.
The landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with sculpted volcanic rock and wide open valleys. After approximately 6 hours of walking, we arrive at Boilouz, a charming oasis surrounded by palm trees. Camp is set near the water source, offering a relaxing and atmospheric overnight stay.

Today involves a steady ascent as we gain about 700 meters in elevation. The trail climbs gradually through rocky terrain and open plateaus, passing the small and isolated village of Igli, where traditional Berber life remains largely unchanged.
After around 6 hours of walking, we reach Tassigdelt, a high plateau offering wide views over the Saghro Mountains. We set up camp here for the night, enjoying the silence, vast skies, and dramatic sunset colors over the volcanic landscape.

This is one of the most rewarding days of the trek. After breakfast, we ascend toward the summit of Kouaouch (2,600 m), one of the highest points in the Saghro range. The climb is gradual and non-technical, offering breathtaking panoramic views over the Dades Valley, Jbel Saghro, and distant High Atlas peaks.
After reaching the summit and taking time for photos and rest, we descend to our camp at approximately 2,300 m. Total walking time is about 6 hours. Evening at camp with dinner prepared by the trekking team.

On our final trekking day, we begin a descent toward the Dades Valley, crossing the pass of Iferd (2,450 m). The scenery gradually changes from high volcanic plateaus to greener valleys with villages and cultivated terraces.
At the road head, we meet our vehicle and begin the 6–7 hour drive back to Marrakech, passing through Ouarzazate and the Tizi n’Tichka Pass once more. Arrival in Marrakech in the evening, marking the end of an unforgettable Saghro trekking adventure.
